I have been trying out loads of new products this month so I have loads of loves and a few loathes to share with you!
First off, skincare 🙂 I have been getting really into skincare recently as my skin has definitely been acting up. I don’t get spots too often but I have extremely dry skin and I have been getting a lot of texture recently too.
Love – Drunk Elephant Glycolic Night Serum
I had been using the Nip + Fab Glycolic Fix Serum, which is 3% AHA, but I didn’t really see any noticeable improvements in my skin. This serum is 12% AHA, and the difference is huge after only 3 weeks. For the first two weeks, I used this serum every other night to get my skin used to using such a high AHA, I now use it every night.
I have noticed a huge improvement in the texture on my forehead, where it was the worst. I have also noticed a reduction in the appearance of my pores on my nose and cheeks.
*Keep in mind, if you are going to give this a whirl, this made my skin break out in quite a few spot for the first week and a half. As far as I understand, this is because the serum helps clean down into the pores bringing dirt and oil to the surface, causing some spots.
Love – Drunk Elephant Virgin Marula Luxury Facial Oil
To be honest, I have never been a huge fan of face oils. I have never found one I didn’t find sticky on the skin – plus I was paranoid that they were clogging my pores. However, this one, I adore! I put this oil on my face and neck every night about 30 minutes after the glycolic serum and my face feels so soft and moisturised in the mornings.
If I am having a really dry skin day, I will pop this on before I apply my makeup. It helps so much with dry patches.
*Tip- I also use this oil on my cuticles, hair and lips. It’s a brilliant multi-tasker!
Loath – Drunk Elephant B-Hydra Gel
Ok so I don’t loath this moisturiser per say, I just don’t think it does anything. I only got a sample of this product and I am so glad I didn’t get the full size. Personally, I would skip this product.
*Downside to the Drunk Elephant range? It can only be bought in Sephora at the moment so I have to ship it over from the US 😭
Love – Embryolisse Lait Creme Fluid Moisturiser
This light moisturiser is the perfect all-rounder. This has been my go to everyday moisturiser for the last 3 or 4 weeks I’d say. I have been using it as a body moisturiser and a face moisturiser. I use this every morning and night on my body, as well as before and after I apply my makeup.
*This is a great moisturiser if you use fake tan, because it won’t break down your tan.
Love – Cocoa Brown 1 Hour Tan Mousse in Dark
Now this is actually a surprise love for me this month. I have never been a big fan of the Cocoa Brown tans for the simple reason that they were nowhere near dark enough for me. I am extremely pale (most brands don’t have a foundation light enough for me..) and so I like a really dark tan – my previous favourite being the BBold Lotion Tan in Dark.
What I love about this tan is how natural it looks. It does give a gorgeous natural tanned colour, but the mousse also means that there are really no streaks or harsh lines. My boyfriend even commented on how natural it looks, and if he notices then damn that’s a special product 😂
I would love if they brought out an Ultra Dark colour as I do have to put on at least two layers of this tan to get anywhere near the colour I want. *fingers crossed*
Now moving onto the good stuff – makeup!
Love – L’oreal Lumi Magique Foundation
I have been loving this foundation lately. I have had it in my makeup drawer for a few weeks but had never really tried it out properly. It has a lovely dewy finish and it super comfortable to wear with my dry skin. I personally don’t need to set this foundation, I just spritz a little bit of my Nyx Dewy Setting Spray and it stays all day 🙂 This also has pretty good coverage. I usually find that dewy foundations are pretty sheer which is pretty frustrating as I like a medium coverage the majority of the time. I would say the coverage is medium buildable.
Loath – L’oreal Nude Magique Cushion Foundation
Now this foundation I really didn’t like. I have yet to try a cushion foundation that I like, and unfortunately this is no exception. My main issue with this is the coverage, there really isn’t any. I tried this out for a good week and a half and I found myself using way more concealer than usual to compensate. I think this may be nice to mix with a full coverage foundation that you wanted to sheer out and make more dewy, but I really see no other use for it..
Love – Natural Collection Blush in Rosey Glow
This blush is the most perfect mauve blush shade, that I can use pale or tanned. I have been wearing this almost everyday of January and loving it! I also love how cheap it is. The packaging is very cheap looking yes, but it’s sturdy and for the price point, I don’t really mind all that much.
Loath – Wet n Wild Contour Palette in Dulce De Leche
This is only a kinda loath.. I do quite like the contour side of the palette, although I don’t find myself grabbing for it very often. The highlight side however is a bit of a disaster on me. This powder drys out my skin like there is no tomorrow, and it breaks down my foundation within 2-3 hours. I have tried to use this powder in a few different ways, setting under my eyes only, using it over a different setting powder to highlight, only on high points of my face, and I have hated it every. single. time. You can see I have already hit pan on this and I have only been using this for a month.. Overall this is a complete fail for me.
Love – Sleek Solstice Highlighting Palette
So I know I am a little late to the gravy train on this one, but I have been obsessing over this palette for the last 2 weeks! The more bronze highlight is so beautiful for when I have a tan – it’s beaming! When I am pale, I tend to mix the yellow and lilac colours. It really is my new holy grail highlight product.
Love – Colourpop Super Shock Shadows
I feel like I am always obsessed with these shadows, but I recently found the matte super shock shadows and have been using them non-stop this month, particularly Desert and Fairfax from the holiday collection. They are so creamy, so blendable and so pigmented. Just so easy to work with, definitely my new go to. I use a synthetic fluffy brush to apply these and it works perfectly 🙂
Love – Kylie Cosmetics Koko K Liquid Lipstick
I had ordered the Kylie Holiday Box when it was released but due to shipping and customs and all that ‘good stuff’ (bad stuff..) I only really got to dig into it late December. Koko K is one of the liquid lips that came in the box and it is by far my favourite. I have been wearing this non-stop, almost everyday. I find that it’s not drying on my lips and lasts all day. It is also the perfect shade for me because it isn’t too dark for me when I have no tan on (it actually looks like a nude!) but I can still wear it when I am tanned as well.
*Some other Kylie colours I adore: Angel, Pumpkin, Okurrr, Merry
Love – Jasons Aloe Vera Shampoo
Last but not least for this month, is shampoo. I have an extremely sensitive, dry scalp that peels and gets very flaky. This shampoo is lovely and moisturising and I have found that I no longer need a conditioner while using it! The flakes on my scalp have pretty much disappeared since I started using this regularly. I highly recommend if you are struggling to find a shampoo which doesn’t irritate your scalp
They are all my loves and loathes for this month. Let me know what you were loving and loathing this month in the comments 🙂
*Disclaimer: Makeup and skincare is very personal as each product tends to perform differently on everyone’s skin, so if you love a product that hasn’t worked for me please know that I don’t think it’s a bad product, it just didn’t work for me personally. Or if you hate something I love, that’s totally fine too 🙂
